About Us

Wind River Tails & Trails is a boarding & training facility for dogs of all ages, sizes, & temperaments.

Our mission is to “Conduct meaningful work in the realm of animal to human communication and coexistence, with the end result of improving human-wildlife and human-canine relationships.  To provide a “home” environment for WRBI staff to complete this work in that is innovative, quantitative, and is a system that provides for implementation of our techniques, growth for staff and safe, cost effective operation of our Programs.”

Our facility and methods have been developed over 15 years of living with and training our world famous Karelian Bear Dogs for Wildlife Service Dog work. Wind River Tails & Trails is a for-profit in conjunction with our non-profit organization Wind River Bear Institute (link here). Our experience with developing a deeper understanding of wildlife-human relationships has been incorporated throughout all of our work. Tails & Trails helps support the continuation of our one-of-a-kind wildlife service work. It’s a community of people who passionately care about their animals (household & wild) and we are always looking to grow our Wind River family.

Our facility is designed to allow dogs to be in a natural environment that gives them a chance to enjoy being a dog. Without cages and kennels, our dogs feel comfortable and happy in open and spacious yards. We aim to be that “home away from home” that cares about your dog personally.

We’ve built this organization upon our beliefs that our pets are our family and should be treated as such. Our business is unlike any other  Boarding or Training facility in Missoula, the Bitterroot, or Montana and if you’d like to see for yourself, give us a call and stop by!

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.  For me they are the role model for being alive.
